Last year a loyal, but
technologically challenged client with a fixed width accommodation site had his
online booking company do him a mobile site for a fixed monthly fee instead of
paying us a one off fee to design a responsive site. He phones me up in a panic
Client: Customers can’t get onto my site from their phones.
Is my site down?
Me: (Checking from PC) No, your site is up and
running and our servers are online.
Client: Well, I’m sitting here with someone who can’t
access my site and I’ve had another three reports.
Me: (Checking my phone) I see. When I try to
access your site from my phone I get redirected to a mobile site that doesn’t
seem to exist.
Client: What’s a mobile site? Why are people getting
redirected? Why isn’t my site working?
Me: The site we built you is working. The mobile site is
what (online booking company) built you so people
with mobile devices can have better access to your site.
Client: Oh, now I remember. I was getting a large monthly
bill for a mobile site, but I never used it so I cancelled.
I removed the redirect, which
satisfied the client.
