I was designing a poetry chapbook for a client who wanted
25 copies to give away to friends and
family. 25 is my minimum order because of the large amount of work
that goes into the book’s design, and this was a relatively simple job compared
to some of my much larger orders. We were ironing out a few final details, and
I was about to go into print production in my studio.
Client: Could you print a special, personal copy
Me: Sure! I actually do that for a lot of my
clients. I can print it onto heavier cotton stock and hand bind it for you,
free of charge.
Client: Awesome, thank you so much! I also want
my personal copy to have all different poems in it, and could I ask for about
20 copies? It’d be great if they could all be hand bound, and I want these
books to be square shaped. I don’t really have the budget to pay for a whole
new book, could you do these as a favor to me? I mean, you’ve already done all
the work, and it shouldn’t be a big deal to swap out the poems with different
