I worked a two-month contract for a client at a very large global company who could not keep any of her shit straight. She spoke English but could barely type it, so she talked like a bad AI bot constantly. She would ask me for assignments I’ve never heard of and where they were. She could not keep track of any of the lower managers’ assignments so would change everything laid out and planned at her own crazy will.
There was absolutely no setup for me and the other contractor to get all the assets we needed, half of them were on the hard drive of the person we were filling in for. I was told I wouldn’t be doing much video work since it’s not my strong suit, and guess what? I did mostly video work. She would interrupt people constantly in meetings to repeat what they just said, and loudly eat on video calls.
Her own underlings would beg her to clarify everything she said. She thought she could do a dozen marketing campaigns in 4 months. It blows my mind how people like this are able to get in positions of leadership. I’m guessing the people above her couldn’t fire her for some reason so they just gave her a budget and an unimportant department to keep her occupied. Because obviously marketing generic tech solutions on Instagram is something people are really interested in… Also, the contract agreement was barely followed. I’ve been working from home during this time but have never been so stressed about a job. She had the nerve to ask for an extension but it’s her own damn fault she can’t get any shit done because she can’t focus on anything.
If a hiring manager ever tells you “oh yea the manager is a lot of fun!” that translates directly to: she’s insane and will leave you that way.
