I’m a wedding photographer. A client hired me to take photos of his daughter’s wedding. When I got there, he had a nephew also taking photos. Not a big deal, I thought, lots of weddings have amateurs in addition to the pro just to supplement.
When I sent him an invoice, he paid… two-thirds. When I called him on it, he explained.
Client: You took 300 photos and edited 50, Danny took 150. I think this is only fair.
Me: You can’t pay your nephew 1/3 of my money because he took some photos.
After some digging, turns out he wasn’t even paying the other guy; his real job was devaluing my work.
