A client once asked me to produce a banner for them and the dimension should have been 12 by 3 centimeters. She measured it on her screen using a ruler.
The email newsletter design that you showed us is not fun enough. Can you be innovative and make it interesting by adding some Flash animations?
“I have a design already made, or at least I know exactly what I want so it should be easy for you if you’re a good designer. Also, I would built this site myself but I don’t have time. It is a very straight forward build that I could do myself so I expect to not have to pay for this.”
Setting: a conference call discussing the latest site updates.
You know the picture of the black man on the site, the one in rotation with the other pictures?
Yes, we know the one - what’s the matter?

We want a shiny black man on our website.
Client: Our London postcode is wrong, it needs to read SXXX XXX.

Me: We’ve fixed that for you.

Client : We don’t have a London office any more, can you remove the post code?
After going back and forth with a design, the client, who was VERY SPECIFIC with their feedback, was finally happy for me to proceed to finished artwork. 1 week later, when site is built –

Client: Site looks great, can we go live?
Me: No, content has not been fully delivered yet, the site is littered with dummy content. Please can you provide the content you would like and all the testimonials please?
Client: But can we not go live with how it is, and add in the content and testimonials later? I like the testimonials as they are.
Me: *Head* *Desk*

(10 minutes later, another email)
… Scrap the duck idea, I don’t know what I was thinking. Perhaps we could try swapping the duck illustration and try using a chair instead. Chairs are good. I have sent an image of a chair for reference.
We need to shoot at three locations, including our offices. We’ll be using the images in our brochures, as well as the website and maybe for some press ads - can you do it on Friday next week (weather permitting). We have a budget of £150.
While working on a promotional copy deck, I was asked by the client to use fewer hyphens as she thougth they were ‘ugly’ and 'unneccesary’. Unfortunately for her, the main focus of the copy was 'Spider-man’…
