To go along with his bio page, take this picture of him from last summer and photoshop his head onto some other body from google images or something, we want something real professional looking, you know classy, we find it is cheaper to just do this, than you know actually get a photographer and stuff.
“I want it to be fabulous. When people look at it they will think "uh huh.” It should say wow and just be me. We have never met, but I think from this email you will understand what that means. I am me and it should be like me. You know who I am. Make it me. Make it fit me…just like that, you know. Is that specific enough? I think that should be enough for you to see my vision.“
When I was a rep/studio manager the photographer I was working with had composed an image with lots of little HO-scale (model RR) figures positioned on a globe. The point of focus was on the equator, so the North Pole was quite fuzzy and the figure was barely a blurred dot in the image. The client looked at the polaroid (pre-digital) and said “Can we make the guy on the Pole black? We need an African-American in this shot.”
“I recently had a client show me an eCommerce site they wanted built. I replied that what they wanted is about a $20,000 web site. They later told me that they had a guy who lived in a cabin who just needed money who would do the whole site for $1,000. He didn’t work out.”
Client: “Hm, the picture is not fitting to the screen?”
We: “Of course, the 16:9 format will not fit on a 4:3 screen so it will be scaled down to fit the screen horizontally and you have these black bars on top and bottom.”
Client: “Then it must be cheaper because I get a smaller image for my money.”
Client’s feedback on an ice-cream image’s proposal for a printed ad:
“I really like how the whole image looks, just have in mind that we are going to come out with this ice-cream Ad in winter, during the Christmas Holidays.
For you to understand, we actually want the image to transmit a ‘warm winter feeling’, so, just make the ice-cream look a little bit hot, and we’ll be ok.”
“We can’t make the type black or white because Apple owns both of those colors.”
“After spending some time with a potential client interested in web design work, I finally asked him about his budget for the project. His response was, "Oh, actually I won’t be paying you. I thought you wouldn’t mind working for the networking opportunities.”
“I need you to design a nice [insert print project here] and print it for me. But I need to be able to edit it myself in the future, so can you do it in Microsoft Word?”
“Early in my career someone who’d Id previously done work passed my information to a friend. This friend operated a cleaning business and he needed an over-sized mailer. Everything went smoothly up until the end he asked if I could somehow superimpose an image of a vagina onto the mailer..”
