I work as a virtual assistant, providing administrative support to a number of clients. Most of my clients understand that I’m juggling a few clients and respect the time constraints that I put on our relationship. Sometimes, though, a client will start trying to ask for more and more, assuming that I’ll be available at the drop of a hat.
One such client was planning an event – a state-wide entrepreneur’s conference – and as the ball started rolling she started trying to rope me into tasks that were well above my scope of work. I wasn’t angry about it, and was able to take on a bit more while maintaining respectful control of my schedule.
The funny thing was that the conference she was putting together was about “work/life balance,” and part of what was tripping her up was that she was putting together a speech about how “overwork is killing you!”
