My design team was working on a website for a client. The client’s assistant served as our official point of contact. Before we started, we received a signed contract and the first half deposit from both the client and their assistant in person at their office.
Two weeks later we had this exchange.
Client: We need to talk about the website. My assistant gave you wrong information. He has trouble with English. I never said my budget was as high as you quoted me and I never read the contract.
Client: So, I need you to add a shopping cart and four new pages and I’m not paying anything extra.
Me: We can add those features but we’d need to amend the contract and quote. The current contract doesn’t include that work.
Client: I’m not paying anything extra. I already provided you with ideas and samples, so I’ve already done a lot of the work you should be doing. Also, my cousin is a lawyer so I will have no problem getting out of any contract.
