Back when I was fairly green I had a client commission me to design a gym lifestyle booklet. If I’d been more experienced I would have heard alarm bells ringing throughout the project. Very simple concepts seemed to allude him. For instance, he was furious that the red headline text to pink when he requested to reduce its opacity by 50% on a white background.
I persisted. The lowest moment in the whole saga came when he was flipping through printouts of the photos he’d commissioned of gym users that he wanted me to include in the design.
Client: This is Natalie, she’s a regular at my gym. Yeah, Natalie. Mmmm, Natalie.
His voice trailed off, and he started to trace his index finger over her chest or crotch in the photo.
