Some years back, I worked for a help desk at a major university under contract with a government agency. We had our share of ridiculous calls, usually when a software change went out. This particular call though was the one that made my time there most memorable.
Me: Help desk, how can I help you?
Client: I can't get my laptop to shut off.
Me: Sounds like it's hung up. Try holding the power button down for three seconds.
Client: I did, and it didn't shut off.
Me: Okay, let's try unplugging the power cord.
Client: It's still on.
Me: Alright, let's remove the battery, then.
Client: I the battery, but it's still on.
Client: What should I do now?
Me: (joking) Okay, box it up and send it to me. I'm pretty sure we're going to be really rich when I determine how your laptop is staying on with absolutely no power source.
Client: Okay, I'll send it in.
